Crime Scene at Girls' Day in the Bioorganic Chemistry Group

Pupils carry out biochemical trace analysis

Today we welcomed ten schoolgirls (8th-10th grade) to our laboratories as part of the workshop ‘Biochemistry: Your entry into the world as a scientist’. With the support of mentors from the Ada Lovelace project (including Lorena Kröner, PhD student from the Bioorganic Chemistry working group), they tackled some interesting criminal cases. In addition to extracting DNA, they succeeded in detecting minute traces of blood with luminol.
We are delighted to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity for biochemical experiments and topics. We had a lot of fun! We wish the participants all the best for their future careers in the natural sciences.
Anyone interested in research internships in our working group is welcome to apply to us.
