Social and Organizational Psychology

Welcome to the website of the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology at the Institute of Psychology in Koblenz, Germany.

Our department complements the foundations of social psychology with the specific area of organizational psychology. It is headed by Prof. Dr. Diana Hanke-Boer.

In addition, special topics such as leadership and employee health, environmental threats in a cross-cultural context, and belief in conspiracy theories will be addressed.

Social Psychology

Human thinking, feeling and behavior under the influence of interactions with the social environment form the core of social psychology. Important characteristics can be group-specific values and attitudes as well as behavioral processes within groups, such as conformity and stereotyping. In addition, it deals with self-concept, empathy, friendship, interpersonal attraction, or support and cooperation. Thus, social psychology - in its focus on social interaction - can be found in almost all areas of our daily life. As a basic discipline of psychology, it is necessary to deepen the understanding of human behavior.

Organizational Psychology

Organizational psychology is concerned with the experience and behavior of people in organizations. Our focus is on leadership and leadership behavior, trust, work and gender, discrimination in the workplace, humor in the workplace, and employee health. The results obtained are used to increase efficiency and improve working conditions and processes in organizations.
