Welcome to the self-assessment of digital competencies for students!

Which digital skills do I have? Which workshops could I attend to develop my digital skills?

The following survey supports you as a student at the University of Koblenz in assessing the current status and development of your digital skills.

The self-assessment questionnaire is based on the "European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens” (DigComp 2.1) and provides you with a classification of your knowledge for all 21 competencies within five competence areas (see Figure 1).

Based on reflection statements, you will be categorized into one of four levels, each with two sub-levels:

Low (0)
Foundation (1-2)
Intermediate (3-4)
Advanced (5-6)

Invest about 30 minutes to explore your digital skills. At the end of the questionnaire, you will receive your score for each competency area, as well as a table to categorize your score.

This test is designed for a wide range of competency levels, and everyone can decide for themselves which competency area and level they consider personally relevant and want to aim for.

You can use this questionnaire as often as you like and should repeat it after various development steps to check your own progress. After completing the self-assessment, you will immediately receive your score for each competency area and a table to categorize this score. Below this text, you will find a pre-made PDF file for convenience, where you can transfer your scores to automatically see your achieved level. In this PDF file, you have the option to enter two test results to track your competency development.

The workshops of the Skills Academy support you in specifically and individually improving your digital skills during your studies at the University of Koblenz. An overview of the current offerings can be found under the Skills Academy tab at the bottom of this page.

What is behind this?

This self-assessment tool is part of the DigiKompASS project (making digital skills visible and improving them), funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, and was designed in cooperation with IKaruS (Interdisciplinary Career and Study Center). As a central academic institution at the University of Koblenz, IKaruS accompanies students from all departments as they navigate through challenges during their studies and supports them in their individual development of key skills, including their digital skills. In addition to the tool's function as an individual assessment for you, your results serve the Skills Academy as valuable feedback regarding the needs for support and as a suggestion for the further design of tailor-made offers to increase your digital skills.

Conceptualisation of the questionnaire

The questionnaire for the self-assessment of digital competence is based on the implementation of the "Digital Competence Self-Assessment Tool" (DigCompSAT 2020) by All Digital, in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre. DigCompSAT turns the 21 competencies and five competence areas of the European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens“ (DigComp 2.1) into reflection statements and divides them into four levels, each with two sub-levels: Low, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.

The English version was taken from the original DigCompSAT. The German version corresponds to the template by All Digital. Both the English version and the German translation were checked by DigiKompASS project staff and adapted where considered appropriate (e.g., individual syntactic/linguistic structures, distribution of points). As a result of these changes, this version differs from the version provided by All Digital.
We therefore ask you to use the version provided by the University of Koblenz. The modified sections can be viewed on request.
