Building blocks (BS) cover topic areas of key and language skills. There are different event formats: self-study courses, face-to-face workshops, digital workshops, and courses throughout the semester.
Self-study courses (SLK) are completed on one's own via OpenOlat. In most cases, quizzes or other examination tasks must be completed to pass the course successfully. For this purpose, read the information in the respective course carefully and check any requirements specific to your degree program! Some self-study courses have predefined running periods and deadlines. Please stick to these periods and deadlines. If not all the necessary tasks have been completed before expiry, the self-study course automatically counts as "failed".
Face-to-face workshops take place on campus and require active participation for the entire duration of the course. There might be additional pre/post assignments.
Digital workshops take place via BigBlueButton and require active participation for the entire course duration. There might be additional pre/post assignments. As a basic requirement, you must use your microphone and camera throughout. Without the use of the camera and microphone, no confirmation of participation and, therefore, no accreditation of credit points can take place.
Courses throughout the semester usually take place once or twice a week with two to four hours per week (SWS). This event format includes, for example, all language courses offered by the Skills Academy.
You can find this semester’s topics on KLIPS under the following pathway:
Course Catalogue > Koblenz > Other Events > IKaruS - Interdisciplinary Career and Study Centre > Skills Academy
In most cases, three workshops must be completed within a building block to receive credit points - please be sure to read the exact information applicable to your degree program below (e.g., additional forms of examination after completion of the three workshops, compulsory/elective area, etc.)!
These courses do not necessarily all have to be attended in the same semester, as all topics are offered in every semester, sometimes with recurring and changing contents. However, we recommend completing one building block in two semesters, if possible, so you do not have too many building blocks pending.

So, we have listed the most important how-tos for you here - those which apply to everyone, as well as additional requirements according to your specific degree program.
Please read through all the information in detail and contact the Skills Academy via skills-academy@uni-koblenz.de if you have any further questions.
General Information
Registration for self-study courses, face-to-face and digital workshops
Registration for these different formats takes place via OpenOlat. Each building block has its own OpenOlat course, in which the individual events are listed and equipped with a sign in function. There are two ways to access these OpenOlat courses:
If you have found an event via KLIPS that you would like to attend, you will find a link to the OpenOlat course of the building block in the KLIPS description.
Alternatively, you can also find an overview of the building blocks and their contents on our Skills Academy overview. Here, you will also find the links to the corresponding OpenOlat course of the building block, which contains an overview of the current workshops.
Once you have joined the OpenOlat course, you can register for courses of your choice via the respective sign-in function. For some workshops, there are several groups with different dates. So, please check whether the (online) dates fit into your (study) routine and choose your group accordingly. Please only register for one group per topic if several groups are offered. We will delete any double bookings.
You can see if the group is full by looking at the number of free spots. However, if you register for a group that is already fully booked, you will be put on a waiting list. Please sign out if you change your mind about your choice of topics or if you will not attend for other reasons. In case of repeated non-attendance despite registration, we reserve the right to exclude you from further attendance.
As soon as you have enrolled in a workshop, you have access to the respective course material under the section "Workspace". For example, you can start self-study courses immediately (if no fixed periods apply) or view any preparation tasks and materials for workshops.
Registration for courses taking place throughout the semester, e.g., language courses
Please register for the relevant course via KLIPS during the enrolment period of the respective semester.
After successful registration on KLIPS, you will automatically receive an e-mail with a link to the OpenOlat course of the respective language (e.g., English) and the access password.
Join the course and then be sure to select the respective proficiency level for which you have registered (e.g., A2.1). Register for the course using the sign in function. Once registered, you can access the course material under the section "Workspace".
Please note that for all language courses from competence level A1.2 (of the Common European Framework of Reference, CEFR) onwards, proof of your language proficiency level must be uploaded! Before that, you will not be able to view the "Workspace" of the course.
After successful completion of the course, all attendees receive a certificate of attendance by the end of the term (31.03. or 30.09.).
If your degree program allows for accreditation, the credits will automatically be booked by us/your degree program on KLIPS at the end of the respective semester after you have fulfilled the modules according to your specific degree program requirements.
If the accreditation should not happen automatically, or if you should need the booking earlier for special reasons, please contact us via skills-academy@uni-koblenz.de early enough to allow for processing time.
Please be sure to follow the rules listed below for your degree program (and of course your examination regulations)!
