Developmental Psychology and Psychological Assessment

The department "Developmental Psychology and Psychological Assessment" focuses its research on the topics "Spatial Perception, in particular Mental Rotation - Assessment, Promotion, Gender Differences", "Empowerment of Girls in STEM Subjects", "Diversity management", "Development in Cross-Cultural Comparison", "Motivation and the Teaching Profession", "Psychological Aspects of Digitalization" and "Problematic Smartphone Use", which are researched either by the scientific staff and doctoral students of the department or within the framework of third-party funded projects.


The department is affiliated with the Laboratory for Biopsychological-Experimental Psychological Research, where biopsychological methods such as eye tracking, skin conductance measurements, emotion recognition by facereader and salivary hormone measurements are available and can be used for student research projects, among others. Furthermore, the department coordinates the test collection of the Institute of Psychology.


In teaching, the department is responsible for modules 1 and 4 in the basic subject Psychology and for the elective "Diversity Management" in the 2-subject Bachelor as well as for module R 1 in the B.A. Education. It also participates in module 4 in the Bachelor of Ed. Educational Sciences (together with Sociology and Elementary Education).
