My scientific journey has started
I am currently a final-year undergraduate student in the Master's Degree Program in Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management and BioGeoSciences/BioGeoWissenschaften at the University of Rwanda and the University of Koblenz-Landau respectively. Since my high school days I have been fascinated by animal life and I could spend a lot of time with my friends playing around in wetlands looking for small fish and diverse animal species. At university, my early passion for biodiversity was consolidated by my strong commitment to the neglected biodiversity conservation.
Before I came to the University of Koblenz-Landau in 2018, I had an unclear idea of what I should specialize in, as I naturally wanted to protect all species. But after attending a series of scientific courses and hands-on practical work, I immediately recalled the conservation of neglected biodiversity. One of the courses I was greatly interested in was bioacoustic assessment of anuran diversity given by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sinsch.
After my visit to his office in Koblenz, with the support from Dr. Maxmillian Dehling, I have been integrated to their project in Rwanda working on diversity of anurans in disturbed and undisturbed wetlands using bioacoustic methodologies. I expressed my interest to work with them in the research of anurans, and I am happy that my request got positive feedback, so I enjoy working with them today.
In addition, with the skills and knowledge I gained from Koblenz, I am currently part of the technical team to assess the biodiversity in key wetlands of Rwanda for a research project to be conducted by the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) in 2019-2020. The Project is entitled "Using Ecological Integrity Assessment and Advanced Information to Guide Wetlands Management Decision Making in Rwanda".
My passion for anuran research is constantly growing and my vision is to continue to work on my thesis.
The University of Koblenz-Landau has shaped my scientific focus. I am a frogman.
