"HealthWalk"-Project

The goal of our "HealthWalk" project is to provide individualized assistance to elderly and physically impaired people. We achieve this by developing a modular add-on system that can be modularly integrated into the design of various existing rollator walkers. We have identified the following four main areas of research and development:

  • disease-specific assessment of posture for physiological load reduction
  • obstacle and ground condition detection to prevent falls
  • fall detection and prediction based on gait-specific triggers
  • environment perception

A combination of sensors, including pressure and distance sensors and miniature cameras attached to the rollator walker, can capture the user's motion and posture and process the collected data in real time. The rollator walker has a feedback system that provides users with instant feedback on their gait and posture. In addition, we aim to predict and detect potential falls or detect unexpected obstacles or unfavorable ground conditions to prevent falls. To implement the project, people with disabilities, physicians, and researchers are working closely together to develop optimal solutions.
