Prof. Dr. Silke Stroh
Profile
Silke Stroh first joined the University of Koblenz in a temporary capacity in the winter semester of 2023-24 and returned as permanent Professor of British Literary and Cultural Studies (“Professorin für britische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft”) in October 2024. In addition to British Studies, she also teaches Postcolonial Studies (e.g. Caribbean literature und culture) and Didactics.
After her M.A. studies in English, German Literature, Political Science and Celtic Studies in Aberdeen and Frankfurt a.M., she obtained a PhD in English Studies (also from Frankfurt University) with a thesis entitled “(Post)Colonial Scotland? Literature, Gaelicness and the Nation“. In 2022, she completed her post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) at the University of Münster with a thesis on “Narratives of Transmigration: Multiple Movement and Cultures of Memory in the British Colonial Diaspora”. She has also held various positions as a lecturer, senior lecturer, assistant professor and temporary professor at the universities of Frankfurt a.M., Gießen, Mainz, Münster, Basel and Oldenburg. Her research areas include Scottish Studies, Black and Asian British and Irish literature, Canada, New Zealand, nationalism and transnationalism, Minority Studies, colonialism and postcolonialism, transculturalism, cultures of memory, intersectionality, political poetry, popular culture, as well as interfaces between English and Celtic Studies.

Thesis supervision:
I am available as a supervisor for Bachelor, Master and PhD theses related to my subject areas.
If you are interested in writing your thesis under my supervision, please contact me as early as possible to discuss your idea/s for a topic. Once we have agreed on a basic topic, you’ll need to do further preparations (including research of possible primary and secondary sources, writing an abstract, and drafting a structure and work schedule/timeline). Moreover, all my Bachelor and Master thesis candidates will be expected to actively participate in my colloquium (in the current semester, this will be a block seminar in February, see above).

At present, my main project is the preparation of a monograph based on my postdoctoral thesis “Narratives of Transmigration: Multiple Movement and Cultures of Memory in the British Colonial Diaspora.”
In addition, I am currently doing editorial work and essay projects on Scottish poetry and folktales from c. the 17th to the 19th century; as well as preparing a larger project on Black and Asian British literature and culture.

Profile
Silke Stroh first joined the University of Koblenz in a temporary capacity in the winter semester of 2023-24 and returned as permanent Professor of British Literary and Cultural Studies (“Professorin für britische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft”) in October 2024. In addition to British Studies, she also teaches Postcolonial Studies (e.g. Caribbean literature und culture) and Didactics.
After her M.A. studies in English, German Literature, Political Science and Celtic Studies in Aberdeen and Frankfurt a.M., she obtained a PhD in English Studies (also from Frankfurt University) with a thesis entitled “(Post)Colonial Scotland? Literature, Gaelicness and the Nation“. In 2022, she completed her post-doctoral qualification (Habilitation) at the University of Münster with a thesis on “Narratives of Transmigration: Multiple Movement and Cultures of Memory in the British Colonial Diaspora”. She has also held various positions as a lecturer, senior lecturer, assistant professor and temporary professor at the universities of Frankfurt a.M., Gießen, Mainz, Münster, Basel and Oldenburg. Her research areas include Scottish Studies, Black and Asian British and Irish literature, Canada, New Zealand, nationalism and transnationalism, Minority Studies, colonialism and postcolonialism, transculturalism, cultures of memory, intersectionality, political poetry, popular culture, as well as interfaces between English and Celtic Studies.
