“Bodies of Water” Student Conference

Dive into the depths of aquatic agency and its role in nineteenth-century British history, literature, and culture at our “Bodies of Water” student conference, hosted by Dr. Sarah Schäfer-Althaus and her M 6.1 students. This exciting three-day event, taking place on 20 January, 27 January, and 3 February 2025 (room F 312), highlights the innovative research and creative projects of our students in the burgeoning research field of the blue humanities.

From exploring the symbolism of water in Victorian literature to examining public health struggles and maritime myths, this conference provides a unique platform to discuss how water has shaped and reflected cultural anxieties, identities, and advancements in the nineteenth century. Join us for presentations, interactive showcases, and creative exhibitions that promise to engage and inspire.
