Research Lab - Data2Health
Understanding Data Governance
Data2Health is a research training program of the University Koblenz and University of Applied Sciences Koblenz that aims to enhance clinical decision-making and patient monitoring through trustworthy analysis of healthcare data. This initiative involves six PhD projects exploring innovative approaches to data transmission, delivery, and predictive analytics, including trusted edge cloud methods, wireless systems, and AI applications in precision medicine. The research training program is partially funded by the Ministry of Science and Health Rhineland-Palatinate.
Data governance in healthcare is a critical component of ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient information. The conccept encompasses the processes of decision-making and accountability, ensuring efficient and legally compliant management and utilization of data resources, treating data as an asset. Yet, a holistic understanding of what data governance comprises and what are the necessary components to realize data governance is still lacking.
Goals of Research Lab
The research objectives are to systematically analyse the literature with regard to data governance and existing data governance frameworks, and to conceptualize the field through a concept matrix and an ontology.
Tasks
Systematically study scientific literature to gather the status of research on relevant theoretical concepts such as Data Governance, Information Governance, Health Data Governance, Clinical Data Governance, and Medical Data Governance.
Systematically study scientific literature to build foundations of Data Governance Concepts and by extension with Health Data Governance.
Investigate and specify legal critical requirements for data sharing in healthcare and utilize existing frameworks such as “Data governance and data policies at the European Commission”, “Health Data Governance for the Digital Age by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development” and similar frameworks.
Synthesize the findings and develop conceptual models for data sociality and data governance that are built on above aspects
